Saturday, January 25th Habitat for Humanity offers homes for Chicago Blues musicians

FDC Foundation and Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs will partner on a new initiative to offer an alternative for two Chicago-area Blues musicians.

South Suburbs, Illinois (January 15, 2014) – Today, more people than ever before can no longer afford to own a home with a traditional mortgage loan. As a result, more families live in sub-standard conditions or pay way too much for rent. Sadly, these facts also apply to many hard-working Blues musicians who contribute much to our cultural lives The FDC Foundation and Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs will partner on a new initiative to offer an alternative for two Chicago-area Blues musicians.

“Our program is designed to provide an opportunity for home ownership to hard working families who otherwise would live in sub-standard conditions,” noted affiliate executive director David Tracy. “Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with zero percent interest, affordable loans. Habitat for Humanity is not a giveaway program. In addition to monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor (sweat equity) into building their Habitat house and the homes of others.”

The affiliate will have 3 and 4-bedroom homes in Chicago Heights, Hazel Crest, Park Forest and Lansing which will be rehabbed to very high standards and come equipped with new appliances, high efficiency furnace and many other outstanding features. Two of these homes will be set aside for Blues musicians who will be selected from among the qualified applicants. “So, now we are scheduling an orientation session for anyone who might be interested in participating in our program”, Tracy added. The session will cover the application process, what it takes to qualify and the steps an applicant must take to become the owner of one of these homes. More information about this program can be found at the FDC Foundation websiteor theHabitat for Humanity website.

This event will take place on Saturday, January 25th at the New Faith Baptist Church located at 25 Central Avenue in Matteson Illinois. This event is open to the public and will start promptly at 10:00 a.m.
